Starspangledbanner Filly Lands Curragh Maiden
The promising Kailasa (3f Starspangledbanner – Kalisma, by Cape Cross) took a step forward to get off the mark in Sunday’s fillies’ maiden at the Curragh.
Positioned in midfield in the early stages of the seven furlong contest, the Aga Khan homebred began to make headway from the two furlong pole and was ridden approaching the final furlong. She ran on well to lead close home, going on to score by a length and a quarter under Ben Coen, while White Clover (Starspangledbanner) took third.
Speaking after the race, winning trainer Johnny Murtagh said, “Ben said she travelled very strongly and this track probably suited her better. She did it very well and I like the way she hit the line.”
