Starspangledbanner Filly Powers Clear On Debut
The well-related Breege (2f Starspangledbanner - Wowcha, by Zoffany) emerged as a smart prospect when making an impressive debut at Wetherby on Tuesday.
The John Quinn-trained bay was the sole filly in the extended five furlong maiden, with the promising field including three previous runners-up. She was travelling well when shaken up before the two furlong pole and led a furlong later, soon drawing clear to score by five and a half lengths.
Royal Ascot may now be on the agenda for the Chasemore Farm homebred, whose dam is a half-sister to top-class two-year-old The Wow Signal (Starspangledbanner). He was one of two Royal Ascot winning two-year-olds from Starspangledbanner’s awesome first crop, with his Coventry Stakes success followed by Anthem Alexander’s win in the Group 2 Queen Mary Stakes.
