Starspangledbanner Filly Shows Plenty Of Promise With Maiden Win
It will be exciting to see what Juddmonte homebred Flagged (3f Starspangledbanner - Grasped, by Zamindar) does next, after she ran out a smart winner of Saturday’s fillies maiden at Limerick.
The Ger Lyons-trained filly caught the eye on debut last month, when finishing a promising sixth at Naas, despite showing signs of inexperience. Well-supported on her second start, she made all under Colin Keane and was pushed along from the two furlong marker. Ridden out inside the final furlong, she kept on well to beat the favourite Friendly (Galileo) by three parts of a length.
Speaking after the race, assistant trainer Shane Lyons said, “We like her and it's a bonus to get the maiden win out of the way - we'll build our season on that. She should progress and improve buckets for the run.”
The daughter of Starspangledbanner becomes the first winner out of Grasped, herself a half-sister to Listed winner and Group 1 producer Posteritas.
