Starspangledbanner Juvenile Wins In Good Style

The Roger Varian-trained Markakol (2c Starspangledbanner - Mrs Gallagher, by Oasis Dream) showed the benefit of experience when justifying favouritism in good style on his second start.

Andrea Atzeni took the ride aboard the favourite in Saturday’s five furlong Novice Stakes at Newcastle, with Markakol racing in touch throughout. Running on strongly between horses with over a furlong left to race, he led soon after and quickened well to win by a length and three quarters.

Markakol sold for 350,000gns as a yearling and is now owned by Nurlan Bizakov. The son of Starspangledbanner becomes the first winner bred by Emma Banks out of Mrs Gallagher.
