Starspangledbanner Newcomer Bolts Up At Goodwood

Barnwell Boy (2c Starspangledbanner - Frilly, by Frankel) shaped like a likely Royal Ascot contender when running out a hugely impressive debut winner at Goodwood.

Charlie Johnston’s representative made all of the running in the six furlong contest and was pushed along approaching the final furlong. The chesnut initially showed signs of inexperience but soon drew clear to score by four and a half lengths under Oisin Murphy.

Mark Johnston later mentioned the Windsor Castle Stakes as a possible target for Mrs Jane Newett’s homebred colt.
