Tattersalls Host Mares In Foal To Popular New Sires
The Tattersalls December Mare Sales will play host to the first mares in foal to Calyx, Crystal Ocean, Magna Grecia and Ten Sovereigns offered to buyers.
Unbeaten two-year-old Ten Sovereigns proved popular in his first season at stud and his first mares catalogued offer an insight into the high quality of his first matings. Among his proven mares catalogued is Premiere Danseuse (Lot 1485) from Hillwood Stud, who produced multiple Stakes winner Pretty Baby. Other well-related mares catalogued include a Galileo sister to Group 1 winner Mukhadram (Lot 1311), a Galileo sister to top-class sprinter Kingsgate native (Lot 1522), a Mastercraftsman sister to Grade 1 runner-up Walk In Marrakesh (Lot 1627) and an own-sister to Irish St Leger victor Flag Of Honour (Lot 1654).
Not far from the scene of his impressive 2,000 Guineas victory, dual Group 1 winner Magna Grecia will be represented by a cast of well-bred mares. Juddmonte Farms offer a winning daughter of Group 1 heroine African Rose (Lot 1373), making her a half-sister to Group 3 winner Fair Eva. Kiltinan Castle Stud offer three in foal to the son of Invincible Spirit in the multiple Stakes-placed Twitch (Lot 1694), a half-sister to Grade 1 winner Gorella (Lot1643) and Centred (Lot 1640), herself a half-sister to two top-level performers.
Newmarket is also where Calyx announced his talent with an impressive maiden victory, before going on to win the Group 2 Coventry Stakes and Group 3 Commonwealth Cup Trial. His accolade of being the fastest son of Kingman is sure to rank him highly with the Tattersalls buyers and among the mares on offer in foal is Lot 1321, a winning half-sister to champion mare The Fugue. Lot 1338 is a full-sister to multiple Stakes winner Sovereign Debt, while Lot 1393 is a winning three-parts sister to Irish Derby hero Frozen Fire.
2019 World Champion Crystal Ocean was the most popular new sire in Europe in 2020 and Lot 2096 is the sole mare catalogued in foal to the top-class son of Sea The Stars, who retired to the Beeches Stud. Mythical City (Rock Of Gibraltar) was a three-time winner herself and is out of a half-sister to three Group winners, including Group 1 Grand Prix de Saint-Cloud victor Gamut.
