Ten Sovereigns Completes Super Saturday For No Nay Never

Ten Sovereigns (3c No Nay Never - Seeking Solace, by Exceed And Excel) set himself a class apart when running out an impressive winner of Saturday’s Group 1 July Cup at Newmarket.

The Aidan O’Brien-trained colt was last seen finishing fourth in the Commonwealth Cup following his first start over a mile in the 2,000 Guineas, in which he finished fifth. Last year’s Group 1 Middle Park Stakes victor was sent to lead by Ryan Moore, conceding to Glorious Journey over two furlongs out and battled back to regain the advantage at the final furlong marker. Driven out, he won by two lengths and three quarters, reversing the form with runner-up and favourite Advertise, with another three parts of a length back to Fairyland in third.

Commenting after the race, O’Brien said, “I'm delighted. Ryan said today he was lovely and relaxed. His work and times last week were unbelievable, and his last piece of work he broke 11 seconds every furlong for four furlongs.”

Ryan Moore added, “He quickened very well and there was no doubt about how superior he was. He looked like a top-class sprinter and hopefully he can continue that for the rest of the season. He gets the trip very well and I thought the turn of foot he showed today was the most impressive thing.”

Ten Sovereigns continued a fantastic day for his sire, following Mystery Power (No Nay Never) taking the Group 2 Superlative Stakes earlier on the card. A 200,000gns yearling buy, Ten Sovereigns was bred by Camas Park, Lynch Bages and Summerhill out of the Listed-placed mare Seeking Solace. His two-year-old full-sister, Eden Quay, is also in training with O’Brien.
