It's Magic sells In Foal To Ten Sovereigns for 260,000gns at Tattersalls

Ten Sovereigns Covers Command Six Figures At Tattersalls

As one of the busiest new sires in 2020, it was unsurprising to see Ten Sovereigns’s first mares prove popular on the opening day of the Tattersalls December Mares Sale.

The unraced Galileo mare It’s Magic (Lot 1311) provided an early highlight on Monday when selling from Baroda Stud to BBA Ireland for 260,000gns. Bidding opened at 100,000gns for the half-sister to Group 1 winner Mukhadram, who was knocked down to agent Michael Donohoe, acting on behalf of a client from the Middle East.

“She's a Galileo mare and we all know what Galileo can do,” Donohoe later commented. “She's a very good physical and should be easy enough to mate. She's got a good covering too, Ten Sovereigns is an exciting prospect, and it's a good tough family.”

Galileo mares have enjoyed success with the Scat Daddy sire line and Ten Sovereigns boasts the accolade of being the best son of No Nay Never. He completed his unbeaten juvenile record in the Group 1 Middle Park Stakes and after finishing a fine fifth in the 2,000 Guineas, made a successful return to sprinting in the Group 1 July Cup.

I Remember You (Australia) earned a maiden cover to Ten Sovereigns after achieving an official rating of 97, through finishing fourth in two Group 3 contests. Offered as Lot 1344 by Bugley Stud, she attracted a winning bid of 130,000gns from bloodstock agent Richard Knight. The three-parts sister to Windsor Castle Stakes winner Southern Hills (Gleneagles) may benefit from updates courtesy of her juvenile brother Toshizou (Galileo), a maiden winner who holds entries in the 2021 Classics.
