Ten Sovereigns Filly Flies Home In Curragh Stakes
Asean (2f Ten Sovereigns - Eria, by Zoffany) produced an impressive turn of foot to take the Listed Curragh Stakes on Sunday.
The Donnacha O’Brien-trained filly placed behind some smart types before getting off the mark last month and faced stiff competition from four black-type performers at the Curragh. Ridden patiently by Gavin Ryan, she was travelling strongly in last approaching the final furlong and ran on strongly when ridden soon after. Sweeping past her rivals, she led by half a length on the line, as Alabama (No Nay Never) completed a 1-2 for Coolmore sires.
“Gavin gave her a brilliant ride,” the winning trainer later commented. “She has a really good turn of foot and he rode her for that. She quickened up really well and is obviously a smart filly. We’ll probably step her up into Group company now.”
Owned by Mrs Anne Marie O’Brien, Asean is the first foal bred by Whisperview Trading out of a full-sister to black-type stablemate Emporio (Zoffany). The progressive juvenile hails from the first crop of Ten Sovereigns, as does Donnacha O’Brien’s Group 3 placed Do It With Style. The freshman sire is also responsible for Windsor Castle Stakes third Inquisitively and Stakes performer Indispensable.
