Ten Sovereigns Filly Sets New High At Goffs

A first crop daughter of Ten Sovereigns smashed records at the Goffs Sportsman’s Sale when selling to David Ryan on behalf of Rabbah Bloodstock for €300,000.

Ten Sovereign’s progeny sold for up to €500,000 at the preceding Orby Sale and Abbeville Stud’s offering on Thursday was widely touted as a standout. She lived up to expectations as Gerry Aherne pushed Ryan to the highest price ever paid at the Sportsman’s Sale, the previous high of €240,000 having come in 2007.

“She speaks for herself,” Ryan said, after revealing his purchase was made on behalf of Jaber Abdullah. “she was the standout yearling here today and she should have been in the Orby Sale. The way fillies were selling at Orby, she's probably value at that price.”

A late April foal, the sales topper was bred by Peter and Carol Henley with Eric McDonnell, and is a three-parts sister to Stakes performer Cadamosto (No Nay Never), who finished fourth in the Group 1 Commonwealth Cup.

Speaking after the sale, Eimear Mulhern of Abbeville Stud said, “She is an absolutely beautiful filly, a real athlete and a pleasure to have anything to do with. She's a princess. I am delighted for Carol, Peter and Eric, who are long-standing clients and it is wonderful to see them achieve such success.”
