Terrific Start To Arqana Sale For Wootton Bassett

A Wootton Bassett filly out of Equivocal gave Haras de la Louviere reason to celebrate on the opening day of the Arqana Select Sale when selling to Oceanic Bloodstock for €250,000.

After signing the docket, Michel Zerolo said, “I can't say who she is for. As to what I liked, it was the filly herself; the stallion, the pedigree, she has everything going for her.” The February-born bay is the first foal out of her winning dam, who was picked up for €38,000, before visiting the rising star of the stallion world, Wootton Bassett.

Himself an unbeaten French Champion two-year-old, Wootton Bassett sired champion racehorse Almanzor from a first crop of just 23 foals. He continues to build on his exciting start, with his current three-year-old crop yielding eight Stakes winners, while this year’s juveniles include unbeaten Listed winner Chindit and TDN Rising Star Midlife Crisis, who lines up in Thursday’s Group 3 Prix du Chene.

Haras de Etreham sold Midlife Crisis as a yearling and enjoyed another great result on Wednesday, when selling their Wootton Bassett colt out of Engage for €120,000 to Canirola Bloodstock.

Wootton Bassett’s other six-figure sale on the opening day of trade was Lot 56 from Haras du Buff, a filly out of Stakes performer Cosmic Sidera (Galileo) who fetched €100,000 from Gerard Larrieu.
