Third Group One for Rock of Gibraltar Filly
Australian bred filly Alboran Sea (3f Rock of Gibraltar x Lady’s Light, by Toolighttoquit) again proved her superiority over some of South Africa’s best older sprinters when capturing the Group I Computaform Sprint at Turffontein on Saturday.
The Mike de Kock trained daughter of Rock of Gibraltar showed her brilliance in the 1000 metre weight-for-age sprint scoring by three-quarters of a length in 55.59 seconds.
Bred and offered for sale by Rosemont Stud, Alboran Sea was a $105,000 Inglis Premier purchase for Form Bloodstock and has won five of nine starts, three of her wins at Group I level.
She is a sibling to stakes-placed Trafalgar Legacy and Light Express being the fifth winner from five to race from Lady’s Light (USA), who was bought by Rosemont for $20,000 at the 2011 Inglis Broodmare Sale when carrying Alboran Sea.
Alboran Sea is one of 98 stakes-winners for Horse of the Year and successful sire Rock of Gibraltar, who is fast closing in on a century of stakes-winners.
