Mrs USA (2f Starspangledbanner - Intermittent, by Cacique) built on two promising performances to justify favouritism in the fillies’ maiden at Sandown on Wednesday evening.

The George Boughey-trained bay finished second on both her previous starts to Lady Hollywood, who went on to win a Listed race that same evening. Sent off favourite for the five furlong sprint, the daughter of Starspangledbanner was asked to quicken from halfway and was ridden approaching the final furlong. Leading from 110 yards out, she overcame signs of inexperience to win by a length under William Buick.

There should be more to come from Mrs USA, whose full-brother Spangled Mac (Starspangledbanner) has won his last three starts for the same stable. Bought as a yearling for 180,000gns, Mrs USA is owned by Tynan, Maclennan, Magnier and Shanahan.
