U S Navy Flag Filly Digs Deep In Sandown Maiden

Chelsea Green (2f U S Navy Flag - Agapantha, by Danehill Dancer) displayed an admirable attitude when getting off the mark in Saturday’s seven furlong maiden at Sandown.

Trained by Hugo Palmer for Chelsea Thoroughbreds, the daughter of U S Navy Flag showed promise on last month’s debut at Goodwood and appeared to enjoy a more prominent ride on her second start. Pushed along approaching the two furlong marker, she led a furlong later under Andrea Atzeni and was ridden when headed inside the final 110 yards. Digging deep, she battled back to dead heat with the well-bred Queen Fleur, as the pair drew three lengths clear of the field.

Speaking after the race, owners representative Emma Spencer said, “Hugo has always liked Chelsea Green, who had a bad draw first time at Goodwood and had a bad draw again today. She was in front sooner than ideal, but when the other filly came to her she showed a good attitude to rally back.”

Chelsea Thoroughbreds and Kerri Radcliffe teamed up to purchase Chelsea Green for 80,000gns as a yearling. Bred by Premier Bloodstock, she continues a promising start at stud by champion two-year-old U S Navy Flag. The son of War Front celebrated Stakes success as a sire earlier this month, when Ocean Vision (U S Navy Flag) captured a Listed sprint at Deauville.
