Ultra-Impressive Debut Winner By Sottsass
Ultrafragola (2f Sottsass – Toinette, by Scat Daddy) emerged as an exciting prospect when running out an impressive debut winner at Deauville on Sunday.
The Jean-Claude Rouget-trained newcomer was sent off favourite under Christophe Soumillon and tracked the leader for much of the seven and a half furlong contest. Cruising to the fore with two furlongs left to race, she soon overtook her stablemate and went on to score by five and a half lengths with ease.
“She is a very gifted filly who has always worked very nicely and easily,” said assistant trainer Jean-Bernard Roth. “We hope that the great moments we enjoyed with Sottsass will be repeated with his progeny and this one could be out of the top drawer.”
Ultrafragola is trained by Rouget for owner/breeder White Birch Farm, with the same connections beaten just a short neck in the opener with fellow newcomer Chauncey Gardiner (Sottsass).
Other promising runners by freshman sire Sottsass include the Charlie Johnston-trained Blessed Star, who was recently beaten a neck on debut, and Newbury maiden runner-up Defence Missile.
