US Grade III Winner for Galileo
A Listed winner in France, Aigue Marine (5m Galileo (pictured) x Aiglonne, by Silver Hawk) scored her second US Black Type success when taking out the Grade III $200,000 Long Island Handicap at Aqueduct on the weekend.
A homebred for Haras du Mezeray & Skymarc Farm prepared by Christophe Clement, Aigue Marine had tried to win this mile and a half contest on turf twice before, finishing second in 2012 and sixth last year, but finally found the post first at her third attempt.
She travelled well back in the field and zoomed up along the inside to snatch a narrow win, her fifth victory from 17 starts.
“She went a bit off form last time, otherwise she’s always been a nice filly,” said her trainer Christophe Clement.
“We’ve tried to win the Long Island with her for a few years; it’s wonderful she’s done it this year. She’s going to go back to Europe and become a broodmare now.”
Aigue Marine is a half-sister to Grade II winner Democrate from Grade III winner Aiglonne.
