Waldgeist G1 headlines banner day for Galileo

Victory in the G1 Grand Prix de Saint-Cloud for Waldgeist (4c Galileo-Waldlerche, by Monsun) headed a haul of three European Group-race wins for the incredible Galileo on Sunday.

The progressive four-year-old provided trainer Andre Fabre with an amazing eighth success in the Saint-Cloud showpiece when holding off the high-class Coronet to prevail in the colours of Gestut Ammerland.

“It was a great performance and, although he has taken time to mature, he is stronger now as a four-year-old,” said Ammerland’s Dietrich von Boetticher. “He has proved himself since the start of the season and was given a great ride by Pierre-Charles Boudot today.

“Ultimately, I imagine the G1 Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe is the main target and we will discuss plans in time, but it will be up to Andre Fabre to decide where and when he goes next.”

Fabre added: “He is in the G1 King George at Ascot, but it was a big effort today so we will see how he comes out of it before committing. Waiting for the G2 Prix Foy (at Longchamp in September) is another option.”

Meanwhile, also on Sunday, Aidan O’Brien sent out Flag Of Honour (3c Galileo-Hawala, by Warning) to win the G2 International Curragh Cup while stablemate Yucatan (4c Galileo-Six Perfections, by Celtic Swing) landed the G3 International Stakes, also at the Curragh.
