Waldgeist Wins Prix Foy For A Second Time
Sunday saw Waldgeist (5c Galileo - Waldlerche, by Monsun) land back-to-back runnings of the Group 2 Prix Foy at Longchamp as he prepares for another tilt at the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe, in which he finished fourth last year.
An ultra-impressive winner of the Prix Ganay in April, the Andre Fabre-trained entire has since finished third in both the Prince Of Wales’s Stakes and King George Stakes. Tracking the leader for much of the way under Pierre-Charles Boudot, he was asked to challenge at the two pole and led soon after, racing home strongly to win by two lengths.
Waldgeist has now won eight pattern contests for owners Gestut Ammerland and Newsells Park. He is closely-related to Group 2 winner Waldlied and is the first foal out of Group 3 winner Waldlerche, herself a half-sister to St Leger victor Masked Marvel.
