Well Bred Starspangledbanner Filly Scores On Return

Hooked On You (3f Starspangledbanner - Plying, by Hard Spun) built on last season’s promise to make a successful three-year-old return at Pontefract on Monday.

Placed as a juvenile, the Karl Burke-trained bay was sent off second favourite for the fillies’ novice stakes over six furlongs and raced prominently throughout under PJ McDonald. Asserting as they approached the two furlong marker, she was ridden a furlong later and kept on to score by a length, with another three lengths back to the third.

The daughter of Starspangledbanner is owned by John and Jess Dance, having been bought as a yearling for 130,000gns. Bred by Jossestown Farm, she is a half-sister to the top-class Alcohol Free (No Nay Never) and Stakes winner Alexander James (Camelot).
