Well Bred Wootton Bassett Colt Impresses At The Curragh
Bucanero Fuerte (2c Wootton Bassett - Frida La Blonde, by Elusive City) shaped like a smart prospect when justifying favouritism in the first two-year-old race of the 2023 Irish flat season.
Adrian Murray’s charge was one of 11 to line up for the five furlong maiden at the Curragh and was ridden in touch by AMO Racing’s retained rider Kevin Stott. Pushed along to challenge approaching the final furlong, he was ridden to lead soon after and ran on well to win by two lengths and three quarters.
Speaking after the race, the winning rider said, “He went through the motions really nicely and was very professional. He pricked his ears when I was in front and hasn't actually had much of a blow. He could be a contender for Royal Ascot.”
Bred by Gestut Zur Kuste, Bucanero Fuerte is owned by AMO Racing and Giselle De Aguiar. The son of Wootton Bassett is a full-brother to two Stakes horses in Group 1 Prix de l’Abbaye victor Wooded (Wootton Bassett) and Group performer Beat Le Bon (Wootton Bassett).
