Well-Regarded Wootton Bassett Colt Lands Leopardstown Maiden
Green Impact (2c Wootton Bassett – Emerald Green, by Galileo) built on last month’s narrow defeat at the Curragh to justify favouritism in Thursday’s mile maiden at Leopardstown.
The Jessica Harrington-trained colt was beaten just a neck over seven furlongs on debut and was reunited with Shane Foley as he attempted to go one better. The bay pressed the leader for much of the way and asserted approaching the final furlong. He kept on well when asked to score by a length and a half, with another two and three quarter lengths back to the third.
“It's great to get that, he a lovely horse,” Harrington commented. “He's the first horse that Marc Chan has ever bred so he's very excited. He's a very laid back horse, a big horse, and he's probably a little bit on the weak side still.”
On future targets, the trainer said, “We'll give him a bit of time and we probably won't be going anywhere in a hurry. Whatever he does now he's going to get better.”
The son of Wootton Bassett holds entries in the Group 2 Futurity Stakes and Group 1 National Stakes. Marc Chan’s homebred is the first foal out of the Galileo mare Emerald Green.
