Wootton Bassett 1-2 In Longchamp Group 3

Zabiari (2c Wootton Bassett - Zaridiya, by Duke Of Marmalade) justified next month’s Group 1 entry when capturing the Group 3 Prix des Chenes at Longchamp on Thursday.

Jean-Claude Rouget’s charge made a winning debut at the track before finishing second in a pair of Listed races and was reunited with Cristian Demuro on his fourth start. Tracking the leader for much of the mile contest, he was angled out two furlongs from home and quickened smartly soon after. Ridden to lead a furlong later, he was driven out to score by a length and a quarter, as recent Group 3 scorer Grey Man (Wootton Bassett) took second.

The Aga Khan homebred becomes a first Stakes winner out of Zaridiya, and may give the pedigree a further boost in the Group 1 Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere, for which he holds an entry.
