Wootton Bassett Colt Delivers On Leopardstown Debut

Ecureuil Secret (3c Wootton Bassett – Vitizza, by King’s Best) emerged as an exciting prospect when making a winning debut in Sunday’s mile maiden at Leopardstown.

The Edward O’Grady-trained colt was the subject of some market support ahead of the race and was ridden prominently by Seamie Heffernan. Switched left after the two furlong pole, he was ridden to lead approaching the final furlong and kept on well to win by a length and a quarter.

“He’d been working nicely,” the winning trainer later revealed. “The stallion is on fire and it’s brilliant to have him. He has a great attitude, and the dream is still alive.”

Owned by Aidan Ryan, Ecureuil Secret was bred by Ecurie De L’Aure out of a half-sister to Group performer Scherzo (Wootton Bassett).
