Wootton Bassett Colt Hits Top Gear On Debut
Pricey yearling purchase Topgear (2c Wootton Bassett - Miss Lech, by Giant’s Causeway) produced a likeable debut performance to land the Prix de Tancarville at Deauville on Thursday afternoon.
Racing over six furlongs, Fabrice Chappet’s charge chased the leader under Stephane Pasquier and was asked to quicken passing the two furlong marker. Running on well under pressure, he led inside the final furlong and went on to win by three parts of a length.
Owned by Hisaaki Saito, Topgear was sold by Haras de l’Hotellerie to Chauvigny Global Equine as a yearling for €200,000. The son of Wootton Bassett was bred by Snig Elevage.
