Wootton Bassett Colt Impresses On Second Start
Lord Bertie (2c Wootton Bassett - Bhageerathi, by Motivator) built on a promising debut to run out a commanding winner of Tuesday’s maiden at Ffos Las.
The William Haggas-trained colt finished third to the more experienced Chaldean at Newbury last month and was sent off favourite on his second start under Tom Marquand. Racing prominently throughout, the bay was full of running three furlongs from home and produced a strong challenge a furlong later. Ridden approaching the final furlong, he soon led and ran on well to score by two and a quarter lengths.
Lord Bertie must have pleased connections at home, having earned himself an Epsom Derby entry. Owned by Ms Fiona Carmichael, the son of Wootton Bassett rewarded breeder Ecurie Peregrine with a €500,000 sale as a yearling.
