Wootton Bassett Colt Lands Stakes Thriller On Return
Sons of Coolmore sires battled it out in the Listed Surrey Stakes at Epsom, where Evade (3c Wootton Bassett – Angel Falls, by Kingmambo) came out on top on his first start for Archie Watson.
Group-placed in France as a juvenile, the Qatar Racing-owned colt was making his three-year-old return on Friday and raced prominently under Oisin Murphy. Leading before the two furlong pole, he was ridden when challenged by Native American (Sioux Nation) and the pair rallied clear of the remainder. The winning margin was a short head, with the winner and runner-up’s performances made more impressive by the nine length gap back to the third.
The progressive son of Wootton Bassett was bred by Ecurie des Monceaux, Ecurie Louick Fouchet, Ralphy Meahjohn and Kastro Stud.
