Colonel Faulkner (Wootton Bassett) Wins His Maiden At Deauville

Wootton Bassett Colt Makes Successful Trip To France

The Archie Watson-trained Colonel Faulkner (2c Wootton Bassett - Kotroba, by Distorted Humor) made a worthwhile trip to Deauville on Saturday, as he made all to win the Prix de Martainville under Hollie Doyle.

Placed on both his previous starts in the UK, he was one of 14 to line up for the two-year-old colts’ maiden over seven and a half furlongs. Ridden approaching two out, the bay ran on well to extend his advantage entering the final furlong and kept on well to beat the favourite Juan Sequin by a length and three quarters. Hoolong (Wootton Bassett) was just another short neck back in third.

A £70,000 breeze-up purchase, Colonel Faulkner runs in the colours of WJA Nash. The son of Wootton Bassett was bred by Al Shahania Stud out of Listed second Kortoba.
