Wootton Bassett Debutante Pounces Late At Saint Cloud
The future looks bright for Zellie (2f Wootton Bassett - Sarai, by Nathaniel) after the Andre Fabre-trained filly made a winning debut at Saint-Cloud on Tuesday afternoon.
Racing towards the back of the field in the early stages of the six furlong contest, the bay quickened in the straight as the field moved towards the stand’s side and made headway when asked by Hugo Besnier. Closing on the leader inside the final furlong, she ran on strongly to lead close home and won by a head, the front pair finishing three lengths clear of the field.
Successful in the colours of Lavinia Fabre, the daughter of Wootton Bassett becomes the first winner bred by Charles Barel out of Sarai. Sarai is a half-sister to 1,000 Guineas heroine Speciosa (Danehill Dancer) and hails from the family of Pride (Peintre Celebre).
