Wootton Bassett Filly Headlines Day 2 Of Arqana December Sale
Following on from a fantastic start to the Arqana December Sale, Wootton Bassett was responsible for the top lot on the second day of trade at €160,000.
Eight mares in foal to Coolmore Stud’s exciting recruit fetched six-figure sums at the opening session, while another two daughters passed the €100,000 mark. The momentum continued on Sunday, when agent Richard Brown supplied the winning bid for La Motteraye’s grand-daughter of dual Listed winner Dream Clover.
Upon signing the docket, Brown said, “She's been bought for an owner-breeder so it's a long-term investment. She's by a super sire and from a really lovely family.”
Wootton Bassett’s commercial demand matches his progeny's success on the track, having sired champion Almanzor from a first crop of just 23 foals, while Group 1 Prix de l’Abbaye victor Wooded was partly responsible for earning him the title of leading sire of three-year-olds in France this season. Dual Group 1 winner Audarya flew the flag for her sire in France and the US in 2020, while talented juvenile Chindit added to his achievements when capturing the Group 2 Champagne Stakes.
