Wootton Bassett Filly Wins Grade 2 On US Debut
Saturday saw Tamahere (3f Wootton Bassett - Alatasarai, by Giant’s Causeway) make a winning start for the Chad Brown stable in the Grade 2 Sands Point Stakes at Belmont Park.
The bay was purchased privately after winning a Listed contest by seven and a half lengths in her native France in June and is now owned by Swift Thoroughbreds, Madaket Stables and Wonder Stables. Making her US debut over a mile, she race towards the back of the field under Irad Ortiz Junior and produced a challenge on the outside upon turning for home. Producing a smart turn of foot in the straight, Tamahere scored by two lengths from previous Grade 2 scorer Speaktomeofsummer.
Brown was delighted with his charge’s performance, saying, “She trained brilliantly. She's a really exciting horse to have for the future. We're lucky to have her. She gave us a lot of confidence that she would be a good horse.
Bred by Elevage Du Sarai, Tamahere adds to a terrific season for recent Coolmore Stud recruit Wootton Bassett. She shares her page with another successful Coolmore stallion, this time in the national hunt sphere, in Walk In The Park.
