Wootton Bassett Newcomer Shapes Like A Smart Prospect
The future looks bright for Detain (2c Wootton Bassett – Nisriyna, by Intikhab) after he overcame a slow start to make a winning debut at Kempton on Wednesday.
John and Thady Gosden’s newcomer was sent off second-favourite for the seven-furlong novice stakes and after breaking slowly, raced in midfield under Kieran Shoemark. Making headway from over two furlongs out, he led inside the final furlong and ran on well to beat the favourite, a previous winner, by two lengths.
The son of Wootton Bassett was sold by breeder Swordlestown Little to owner Juddmonte Farms at the Goffs November Foal Sale for €340,000.
