Wootton Bassett’s Bucanero Fuerte Lands Group 3 On Return
Group 1 winner Bucanero Fuerte (3c Wootton Bassett – Frida La Blonde, by Elusive City) made a winning return to action in Sunday’s Group 3 Lacken Stakes at Naas.
Adrian Murray’s stable star carried a penalty for his impressive victory in the Group 1 Phoenix Stakes and was partnered by David Egan for the first time. The bay made virtually all in the six furlong sprint and was ridden when challenged inside the final furlong. He dug deep to deny the favourite Givemethebeatboys by a head on the line.
“Bucanero Fuerte is unbelievable,” said the winning trainer. “It's on to Ascot now and we'll probably go for the Commonwealth Cup. We're really looking forward to it.”
Bucanero Fuerte’s previous trip to the Royal meeting saw him finish third to River Tiber (Wootton Bassett) in the Group 2 Coventry Stakes, before gaining his first pattern win in the Group 2 Railway Stakes. Bred by Gestut Zur Kuste, the three-time Group winner is owned by AMO Racing and Giselle De Aguiar.
