Zoffany Colt Powers To Maiden Victory
Powertrain (2c Zoffany - Emerald Ring, by Johannesburg) continued on an upward curve when gaining his maiden win at Newmarket on Saturday.
The Hugo Palmer-trained colt finished third last time out in a similar six furlong contest at Windsor, with Jack Mitchell employing similar tactics to his previous start. Tracking the leaders, he was forced to switch left approaching the final furlong and squeezed through horses to bear down on the leaders. Staying on well under pressure, he led close home to beat the favourite Premier Power by a head, with a further six lengths back to the third horse.
Owned by Isa Salman and bred by Coolmore Stud, Powertrain was bought by Jake Warren at the Tattersalls Craven Breeze-Up Sale for 145,000gns from Mocklershill. The son of Zoffany is a half-brother to Listed winning juvenile Ballet Shoes (Galileo), while their dam won a maiden and was placed at Group 3 level.
