Zoffany Colt Wins On Debut At Leopardstown
Federal (2c Zoffany - Zee Zee Gee, by Galileo) produced a smart performance to make a winning debut in the seven furlong maiden at Leopardstown.
Racing in midfield under Declan McDonogh, the Joseph O’Brien-trained colt was switched right to challenge two furlongs from home and made good headway under hands and heels to lead inside the final furlong. He ran on to win by a length.
Speaking after the race, the in-form winning trainer said, “He did well to win off a slow pace and he'll probably go for a winners' or stakes race.”
O’Brien bought Federal as a yearling for €90,000 and the son of Zoffany runs in the colours of Lloyd Williams. Bred by Brittas House Stud, he is a half-brother to Stakes performer Farzeen and is the seventh foal out of Zee Zee Gee (Galileo), herself an unraced half-sister to dual Group 1 winner Izzi Top.
