Zoffany Filly Aimed At Greater Glory
The well-bred Game And Set (2f Zoffany - Grace And Four, by Montjeu) will now aim for black-type after gaining her maiden win in authoritative fashion at Newbury.
Placed on both her previous starts, the Andrew Balding-trained filly was dropping back in trip to six furlongs on Friday, with David Probert back on board. He rode the bay prominently and led from two furlongs out, his mount running on strongly to beat the favourite by two lengths, with a further four and a half lengths back to the third horse.
Speaking after the race, the winning jockey said, “Game And Set had some good experience coming into this race and ran well last time at Ascot over seven. She's on the up. There is a Listed race for her in a fortnight's time in Germany which we will try and get some black type.”
Owned by Nicholas Jones, Game And Set comes from a family that gets better with age, having been bred by Coln Valley Stud out of a full-sister to the late Fame And Glory. He was unbeaten in two juvenile starts, but raced for another four seasons, winning a total of 14 races, five of them coming at Group 1 level.
