Zoffany Filly Impresses With Group 3 Win
Albany Stakes third Mother Earth (2f Zoffany - Many Colours, by Green Desert) gained a deserved maiden success in Saturday’s Group 3 Coolmore Stud Irish EBF Fillies’ Sprint Stakes at Naas.
Second to subsequent Stakes winner Frenetic on debut last month, the Aidan O’Brien-trained filly went on to finish a fine third at Royal Ascot, despite not enjoying a clear run. Sent off favourite on her latest start, she raced prominently under Wayne Lordan and led with a furlong and a half left to race. The bay soon went clear and won by four lengths on the line.
Speaking after the race, Lordan said, “Mother Earth is a smashing filly. She'll get further so I was happy to go forward. I got to the line well and she is a smart filly.”
Owned by Derrick Smith, Mrs John Magnier and Michael Tabor, Mother Earth was bought by MV Magnier as a yearling for €150,000. The daughter of Zoffany was bred by Grenane House Stud out of Listed winner Many Colours, making Mother Earth a half-sister to Group 2 winner Night Colours.
