Zoffany Filly Storms Clear To Win Naas Maiden
Zodiacus (3f Zoffany - Naval Affair, by Last Tycoon) produced an impressive turn of foot when striding clear of her rivals in Monday’s six furlong maiden at Naas.
A fine fifth on debut earlier in the month, she broke well and made all under Colin Keane, who pressed her to quicken from the two furlong pole and she duly obliged, racing clear to win by a comfortable three lengths.
Delighted winning trainer Tom McCourt commented after the race, “Zodiacus is very fast. She improved a lot from her last run and Colin said she was still very green. She did it the hard way and was on her own for most of the way. We'll see what's coming up in winners-of-one races and we might have a look at a Listed race in Cork.”
Owned by John P McGovern and bred by Paget Bloodstock, Zodiacus is a half-sister to Listed winner Field Day. A granddaughter of Group 3 Meld Stakes winner Sailor’s Mate, she comes from the top Ballymacoll family of Hellenic, Islington (Sadler’s Wells) and Mountain High (Danehill).
