Zoffany Juveniles Continue Excellent Run
The improving Sherpa (2c Zoffany - Eirnin, by Galileo) led home a 1-2 for Zoffany in Monday’s Irish Stallion Farms EBF Maiden at Roscommon.
The Aidan O’Brien-trained colt raced over seven and a half furlongs, chasing the leaders under Donnacha O’Brien and began to make good headway over a furlong from home. Soon in front, he was ridden out to score by two and a quarter lengths as the promising Maker Of Kings (Zoffany) stayed on for second, with the same distance back to the third horse.
Owned by M Tabor, D Smith, Mrs Magnier and Mrs O’Brien, Sherpa was bred by Whisperview Trading out of a winning three-parts sister to dual Stakes winner Psalm (Sadler’s Wells) and Listed winner Queen Titi (Salder’s Wells), herself the dam of Dewhurst Stakes victor Beethoven.
Sherpa joins a recent string of two-year-old winners by Zoffany that includes impressive maiden winner Johan, the well-bred Game And Set who will be aimed at Stakes company and Newmarket scorer Powertrain. Zoffany commands €25,000 at Coolmore Stud.
