12-length bumper winner for Getaway
The Willie Mullins-trained Getabird (4g Getaway-Fern Bird, by Revoque) is now favourite for the G1 Champion Bumper after cruising to a 12-length victory at Fairyhouse on Sunday.
The four-year-old, bred by Pat Connell, led home a 1-2 for in-form Getaway when coming home in front of Gigginstown House Stud’s Imperial Way (4g Getaway-Stormy Moment, by Glacial Storm), trained by Joseph O’Brien.
The winner, owned by Susannah Ricci, was having his first start since being sold for €200,000 at the Punchestown Sale in April following a point-to-point victory.
He is now 7/1 favourite for the Cheltenham Festival bumper and Mullins commented: "He's by Getaway, a son of Monsun, and I think he's going to make a real nice sire.
"Getabird showed me a little bit at home. We said we'd take a chance and run him here but I thought this was a very hot bumper. Two or three trainers had touted their horses and I know one or two had refused good money for them.
"Patrick thought Getabird was going flat out but when he pulled him out for a bit of daylight he had to pull him back again as he had so much in the tank. When he let him go he just flew.
"He's a real nice horse and obviously a lot better than I had put him down as."
