8-length debut winner for Getaway

Gallahers Cross (5g Getaway-Raheen Lady, by Oscar) looked a horse to follow after winning impressively on his point-to-point debut at Punchestown on Sunday. Trained by Sandra Hughes, the Noel Fenton-bred Getaway gelding stormed eight lengths clear of his opposition. p2p.ie commented: “An eight-runner contest which saw newcomers fill all of the leading positions in the betting, and that also proved to be the case at the finish with a pair of debutants deciding the outcome.“GALLAHERS CROSS (IRE) was most impressive on his debut here as the Getaway gelding travelled with supreme ease throughout in what was one of the day`s quickest races. Picking-up from his mid-division position as the race began to pick-up, he was left with the advantage after the third-last, however it was when he was asked to extend entering the home straight that he decided the outcome of the race in a matter of strides with a very taking turn of foot. Returning on the bridle in a facile manner, this is a horse with plenty of gears and he could have done little more here to readily brush aside his rivals with minimum ease. An impressive sort, his is a name to note going forward.”
