Big Chasing Dreams For Son Of Mahler
Talented hurdler Chris’s Dream (6g Mahler - Janebailey, by Silver Patriarch) made a winning start to his chasing career at Navan on Saturday.
The Henry De Bromhead-trained gelding won a Grade 3 hurdle by all of 64 lengths in February, but disappointed on his next start in the Albert Bartlett Hurdle at Cheltenham. It was no surprise to see him take to the obstacles, having also won a four-year-old maiden between the flags impressively at Boulta for Eugene O’Sullivan.
His chase win came over two and a half miles and saw him take the lead from the third fence, extending his advantage to four lengths after halfway, eventually staying on well to the line. The winning margin was three lengths, with fellow Grade 3 performer Gun Digger claiming runners-up honours, seven lengths clear of the favourite.
Henry De Bromhead commented after the win, “Chris's Dream is in the three-mile at Leopardstown and we'll see how he is after this race. I was impressed with him today. He's probably more a three-mile horse and he won nicely over two and a half.”
Bred by Mary O’Connor, Chris’s Dream is owned by Robcour after being purchased by Tom Malone for £175,000 at last year’s Cheltenham December Sale.
