Big Future Ahead For The Big Breakaway Over Fences
The three mile Novices’ Chase on the final day of Cheltenham’s November meeting has previously produces the likes of Thistlecrack and Black Corton, and the 2020 running appears to have produced another future star in The Big Breakaway (5g Getaway - Princess Mairead, by Blueprint).
Colin Tizzard’s charge won a point-to-point and his first two starts over hurdles, but ended his unbeaten record when finishing a fine fourth in the Grade 1 Ballymore Novices’ Hurdle. He was sent off favourite on his seasonal return and produced a perfect round of jumping under Robbie Power. Quickening from three out, he was shaken up at the final fence and raced clear up the hill to win by ten lengths.
Assistant trainer Joe Tizzard was thrilled by the winner’s performance and later said, “I'm thrilled to bits with The Big Breakaway, he travelled and jumped really well. For a first run over fences we couldn't ask for anymore and he's got a huge future ahead of him.”
Owned by Eric Jones, Geoff Nicholas and John Romans, The Big Breakaway was bought by his trainer with Peter and Ross Doyle for €360,000 after winning his debut for Donnchadh Doyle. Bred by William Mangan, his win provides an exciting update for his full-brother catalogued at next month’s Tattersalls Ireland November NH Sale.
