Big Plans For Impressive Son Of Getaway

A step up in class is on the cards for Ree Okka (6g Getaway - Presenteea, by Presenting) after an impressive performance in Saturday’s three mile Novice Hurdle at Kempton.

Purchased privately after winning his point-to-point for Stuart Crawford, the son of Getaway made it second time lucky over hurdles last month and was sent off favourite to follow up under Sean Bowen. Producing a challenge three from home, he led entering the straight and drew clear from the second last. He won by six lengths with ease, as Dash Full Of Cash (Milan) claimed runners-up honours.

“We are delighted with the performance but I love everything about Ree Okka.” Winning trainer Harry Fry later commented. “He is just a lovely young horse that we hope will make a chaser and that we will have some fun with in novice hurdles this season.” On future plans, he added, “We could go to Haydock in February (Prestige Novices' Hurdle) then on to Aintree (Sefton Novices' Hurdle).”

Owned by the Jago Family Partnership, Ree Okka was bred by Distillery Stud. His success bodes well for his full-sister who sold for £70,000 at last year’s store sales.
