Black Type Maxios Mare Proves Stamina In Valuable Contest
Stakes performer Yaxeni (4f Maxios - Kithonia, by Sadler’s Wells) provided connections with a valuable prize when landing the November Handicap on the final day of the Irish flat season.
Absent since early August, Ger Lyons’ charge came to Naas with five Stakes placings to her name and made a significant step up to two miles on Sunday. She raced prominently throughout under Colin Keane and was switched right approaching the final furlong, digging deep to lead close home.
Speaking after the race, assistant trainer Shane Lyons commented, “To be fair to the filly she's an absolute model of consistency. It's the first time she's stepped up to two miles and we knew she'd get it no problem.” On future plans, he added, “She stays in training next year and it will be all about getting black-type.”
Owned by SBA Racing, Yaxeni was bred by the Niarchos family, who raced her sire Maxios to land a two Group 1 contests.
