Brother To Douvan Sells For Record Breaking £570,000
Given the impressive nature of his debut victory, and the achievements of his full-brother Douvan, Jonbon (4g Walk In The Park - Star Face, by Saint Des Saints) was expected to command a substantial sum at Thursday’s Goffs UK November Sale and did not disappoint; selling for a record-breaking £570,000.
JP McManus was confirmed the successful bidder, much to the disappointment of underbidder Anthony Barney, though his price delighted Ellmarie Holden, Paul Holden and Michael Shefflin. Jonbon was a brave store purchase at £170,000 but repaid the faith when running out an unchallenged winner of a Four-Year-Old Maiden at Dromahane last weekend under the care of Ellmarie Holden.
Speaking after the sale, Paul Holden said, “We took a punt on the horse when we bought him, he was an expensive store. On the day we bought him I suppose he was a cheap expensive horse - we didn’t think we’d get him.” On what he expects Jonbon to achieve under rules, he added, “All the way. He’s got serious ability. Watch this space.”
The ill-fated Flemenshill (Flemensfirth) held the previous record price for a point-to-pointer of £480,000, though Ginto (Walk In The Park) came close to equalling it earlier this month when selling for €470,000.
