Calyx Colt Notches Second Success On Return

Golden Strike (3c Calyx – Hot Legs, by Galileo) recorded his second win from three starts when making a successful seasonal return at Ripon on Wednesday.

Richard Fahey’s charge finished a promising third on debut in September and returned two weeks late to win a six furlong maiden, from which the runner-up later sold for 260,000gns. The chesnut remained over six furlongs on his three-year-old debut and raced towards the back of the field as the leaders set a brisk pace. Switched right approaching the final furlong, he was ridden to lead inside the final 110 yards and ran on well to score by half a length.

Golden Strike is owned by Sheikh Rashid Dalmook Al Maktoum, having been bought by Blandford Bloodstock for 135,000gns at the Tattersalls Guineas Breeze- Up Sale. The first crop son of Calyx was bred by R McDonald and A Mansergh Wallace.
