Classic Getaway (Getaway) winning at Borris House

Classic Getaway Sells For Record-Equalling £570,000

Exciting point-to-point winner Classic Getaway (4g Getaway - Classic Magic, by Classic Cliche) equalled the record priced paid for Jonbon (Walk In The Park) when fetching £570,000 at Thursday’s Goffs UK December P2P Sale at Yorton Farm.

Rob James described Donnchadh Doyle’s charge as one of the best four-year-olds he has ridden after partnering the newcomer to an eight length success at Borris House at the end of November. The impressive nature of that win saw bidding open at £100,000 and soon rise to £370,000, leaving it to Robin Woodward and Tom Malone to trade the final bids.

The gavel fell in favour of Malone, who later confirmed the headline act had been purchased on behalf of an existing client of Gordon Elliott. “He's absolutely gorgeous and you don't often come across horses like him,” the agent said. “He was well touted before he ran, and Donnchadh Doyle would have 60 or 70 of this type and he stood out. You couldn't paint him, he's that beautiful. The future's very bright for him.”

Bred by Daniel Fogarty, the son of Grange Stud sire Getaway was sold as a three-year-old for £65,000 to Donnchadh Doyle, who later commented, “He's a very special horse and I was lucky to buy him. You wouldn't come across horses like him everyday as a store, not at that price, but it's worked out great.”
