Clear Cut Bumper Double For Getaway
The Olly Murphy-trained Jetaway Joey (5g Getaway - Present Your Own, by Presenting) built on a promising debut performance to gain his maiden victory at Fontwell on Sunday.
Second at the first attempt in November, he was sent off second favourite for the bumper over an extended two miles. Aidan Coleman rode him to track the leader, improving to lead approaching the two furlong marker and was shaken up to go clear approaching the final furlong. Running on well, he won by three lengths, as the favourite Itsnotwhatyouthink (Westerner) ran on for second.
Owned by Mrs Barbara Hester and bred by Dan Mangan, Jetaway Joey is a full-brother to the useful Getaway John. Their Grange Stud sire Getaway completed a double on the day when the Dan Skelton-trained Getariver (7m Getaway - Watson River, by Presenting) made all to win the "Jumpers" Bumper at Wolverhampton.
Sent off favourite under Harry Skelton, she was ridden from two furlongs out and kept on well to win by two and a quarter lengths. Owned by Mrs and Mrs Gordon Pink, Getariver had won her only two previous starts in bumpers last season, while she gained a maiden hurdle success in November. Her first career win came in a point-to-point on her sole start for breeder Damian Murphy.
