Daughters Of Coolmore Sires Reap Rewards At Cheltenham
Uptown Lady (4m Milan - Lady Zephyr, by Toulon) showed plenty of promise on her point-to-point debut last month and connections were rewarded at Friday’s Tattersalls Cheltenham Sale.
The Denis Murphy-trained mare was beaten just a length into second in the Four-Year-Old Mares Maiden at Knockinroe, in which the first three horses home looked a class apart. Jonjo O’Neill was clearly impressed by what he saw that day and went to £150,000 to secure the daughter of Grade 2 hurdler Lady Zephyr.
It marked a fine profit on her store price, with Murphy and John Brennan having picked up the daughter of Milan for €48,000 at the Derby Sale.
Gerry Hogan, meanwhile, was very taken with point-to-point winner Garter Lane (4m Getaway - Tariana, by Revoque) and parted with £100,000 to secure the chesnut consigned by Philip Fenton’s Glenbower Stables.
She had evidently impressed at home and was sent off favourite on debut at Lisronagh last weekend. Despite being forced wide on the home turn, she raced home four lengths clear of her rivals, which included a half-sister to Samcro in third.
