Exciting Getaway Mare Beats The Boys In Listed Hurdle
Henry de Bromhead described Annie G (5m Getaway - Its Only Gossip, by Lear Fan) as “a really exciting mare” after she won the Listed Novice Hurdle in fine style at the Galway Festival.
Last seen winning her maiden hurdle by all of 23 lengths, the sole mare in the field was sent off second favourite under Darragh O’Keeffe, who rode her to make all. Shaken up to go clear from the second last, she kept on well on the run-in to win by eight lengths.
De Bromhead later revealed that Annie G would be seen to even better effect on a left-handed track, which added to the impressive nature of Wednesday’s victory. “Today Annie G was really good and is a lovely mare who is progressing all the time,” he said. “She has a full novice season ahead of her and her half-brother Western Point was a good chaser.”
Owned and bred by Mr Richard Gallagher and Mrs Henry Gallagher, the daughter of Getaway is a half-sister to the aforementioned Western Point (Westerner), twice a Grade B winner over fences.
